Frequently asked questions

What types of therapy do you offer?

I specialize in trauma-focused therapy using Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a highly effective eye-movement–based approach similar to EMDR. I also integrate solution-focused, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and strength-based approaches depending on your goals and needs.

What is ART? How is it different from EMDR?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a therapy that uses guided eye movements, visualization, and somatic approaches to help you process traumatic memories and reduce emotional distress. It is similar to EMDR but is often faster, less distressing, and more directive, helping clients move from painful images to positive ones in a structured way. Many clients describe it as powerful yet gentle.

What kinds of concerns do you work with?

I work with individual adults experiencing:

  • Trauma and PTSD (including complex trauma)

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Depression and self-esteem issues

  • Grief and loss

  • Relationship struggles and communication issues

  • Anger and emotional regulation challenges

  • Codependency

Do you offer in-person or telehealth sessions?

I currently offer in-person sessions at my two offices in NE Portland. ART is most effective with in-person therapy. At this time, I do not provide telehealth sessions.

What insurance do you accept?

I am in-network with several major insurance providers, including Regence BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Moda, Cigna, Quest, and Carelon.

How long will therapy take?

Every client is different. Some people notice significant changes after just a few sessions of ART, while others choose longer-term therapy to work on deeper issues and maintain growth. We will discuss your goals together and adjust the pace and length of treatment to fit your needs.

What can I expect in the first session?

Our first session is about getting to know you, your history, and your goals for therapy. I’ll ask questions to better understand what brings you in, and together we’ll create a plan that feels both supportive and achievable. Many clients leave the first session feeling hopeful and more grounded.

Is ART safe? What if I can’t visualize well?

Yes, ART is considered safe and effective. You don’t have to vividly “see” images for it to work. Some clients process through sensations, emotions, or thoughts rather than pictures. I’ll guide you through the process step by step and adjust to your comfort level.

Do you give homework?

Sometimes. For some clients, practicing skills outside of session (like grounding, journaling, or communication strategies) can help accelerate progress. For others, the work happens mainly in the session itself. We’ll decide together what works best for you.
